Harbour Pilotage is not compulsory for ships entering Summerside Harbour.
If a ship requests a pilot, the following are the parameters within which the local pilots are willing to bring vessels into the harbour:
Ships 135 to 186 meters in length must have bow thrusters, or must order the services of a least a 4,000 hp z-drive tug.
Maximum breadth: 25 meters.
Maximum draft: 8 meters, with at least 1 meter low water tide during the port stay.
For ships slightly over these parameters, local pilots will assess each ship individually to determine if it is acceptable.
The available draft at the west berth is 7.3m at chart datum, plus the tide differential.
